- History of the Firm - Whitney Damron has over twenty years of experience in the field of state government relations and politics in Kansas . He began his lobbying career in 1986, when he went to work with John Bottenberg, a Topeka-based contract lobbyist, during his second year of law school. Mr. Bottenberg relocated his firm into the offices of Pete McGill & Associates, Inc., in the fall of 1986 and Damron was asked to join Mr. McGill's firm as an employee in January of 1987. Mr. McGill was a former Speaker of the House of Representatives in Kansas , the top leadership post in the Kansas House, a position he held for two terms (four years) in the mid-1970's.
Pete McGill, now deceased, was a pioneer in the field of contract lobbying in our state. At one time, the firm represented over forty clients and was recognized as the largest and most successful government relations firm of its kind in the Midwest United States. Damron worked with the firm for over eight years, leaving in 1995 to create his own government relations company, Whitney B. Damron, P.A.
Since that time, Damron has developed a successful lobbying firm and represents a diverse clientele before Kansas legislative and administrative branches of state government. Clients of the firm include utilities, municipalities, professional and trade associations, Native American Tribes, health care interests and others.
Although a licensed attorney, Damron does not practice law, but instead devotes his practice exclusively to the area of government relations. Although the Kansas Legislature is traditionally in session only from January through May, numerous legislative and administrative hearings and meetings are held throughout the year making year-round representation a necessity for entities affected by actions of Kansas state government. And, of course, on rare occasions there are Special Sessions of the Kansas Legislature, such as the one held in 2005.
